Katie & Jason: A Grand Wedding

I met Katie and Jason a year before their wedding. They had already been in engaged for a year and had no wedding plans in the works. Their approach to planning their wedding mirrored my sister and her fiancé’s, and so I was immediately endeared to them. They didn’t know where to begin, and so they hadn’t yet.

By the end of our first meeting, we had identified that the following summer near Grand Lake would be a good place to start; Katie works in a high school, and Jason’s family has owned a cabin there since the 1960s. The timing was chosen based on scheduling and the location was decided on based on the emotional connection; we all left feeling good.  Bit by bit we chipped away at each to-do until we made it to July and to their perfect wedding day.

If you’ve never been to Grand Lake (I’ve lived in CO for over 15 years and never had) you MUST go. It’s magical; it made me long for the days of being away at camp, having endless summer days filled with canoeing and sunfish sailing on the lake, ice cream eating, playing jax and writing letters home during bunk time. It literally is a Grand Lake, in fact it’s the grandest in this land-locked state. The lake-town-living vibe permeated the town like coastal living famously does. It was the perfect mix of gorgeous, rustic, campy, outdoorsy, nature-y, family oriented. I have to say, I was smitten with the place! The perfect weather and the moose that hung around my cabin all weekend only deepened my love for this spot.

These two have a long line of Boulder roots and the crowd was a Colorado crowd through and through. I loved getting to know these two over the course of a year’s worth of planning their beautiful, rustic, fun wedding.
